In the article “Learning Languages Through Subtitles?,” by David Warlick, explains another use for subtitles in movies other than enhancing the experience, to learn new languages. First, it could help a person learn a new language because they would learn the words with examples to back them up to help remember. Next, they hear the word in their own language and see it in a different language for comparison that helps for memorization. Last, if people realize that they can learn new languages through movies more people might consider taking up new languages since people already watch a ton of movies and no change in life style would be necessary to fit it into their schedule. Obviously, the subtitles in movies are allowing for people of different languages to come together and learn one and another’s culture through film.
